A very warm welcome to The 247 Catholic!
Why "The 247 Catholic"?
Well, this blog tries to express a desire that lies at the heart of the Christian life: to live our Catholic faith every day, every hour, every minute. Not simply on Sundays, not only when we attend Mass, and not just when we feel particularly close to God, but throughout the ordinary experiences of our lives.
That is the aspiration, at least...
... however the reality can be rather different...
I can leave Confession determined to do better, only to lose my patience with someone ten minutes later.
I can begin praying the Rosary with the best intentions, then discover that my mind has wandered through my entire to-do list before I reach the end of the first decade.
I can love Jesus sincerely and still struggle with distraction, doubt, temptation and the seemingly endless demands of everyday life.
Perhaps that sounds familiar.
Being a practising Catholic means precisely that: practising.
We keep learning, keep trying and keep returning to the Lord when we stumble. We do not have everything worked out, and holiness is not something we achieve overnight. It is a journey of responding to God's grace, one day at a time.
That is the spirit behind The 24/7 Catholic. It is not written from the perspective of someone who has mastered the spiritual life, far from it, but from that of someone who wants to understand the faith more deeply and live it more faithfully.
And perhaps we can make that journey together.
What Does It Mean To Be A 24/7 Catholic?
Saint Paul gives us a wonderful starting point:
“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, RSV-CE)
Other translations express this invitation as “pray without ceasing”. At first, that can sound rather intimidating. How can we possibly pray constantly when we have work to do, meals to prepare, people to care for and responsibilities that demand our attention?
Surely God does not expect us to spend every waking moment on our knees?
The invitation is deeper than that.
Prayer is not confined to the words we say or the time we spend in church. It is also about living in a continual relationship with God, remembering His presence and allowing our faith to shape the way we approach everything we do.
Driving to work, washing the dishes, visiting a neighbour, tending a garden, enduring illness, comforting someone who is grieving or simply enjoying the company of friends can all become opportunities to turn towards God.
Our ordinary lives are not interruptions to our spiritual lives. They are where much of our spiritual life takes place.
Jesus tells us:
“Abide in me, and I in you.” (John 15:4, RSV-CE)
To abide in Christ is to remain close to Him, allowing His presence to influence our thoughts, words and actions. It means recognising that we are called not merely to work for God, but to live with Him.
This is where our journey begins: not with the expectation that we must become perfect, but with the desire to surrender our lives to Christ and allow His grace to transform us.
A Place To Pause, Reflect, Pray And Discover
The Catholic faith is wonderfully rich. Scripture, the Sacraments, the teachings of the Church, the lives of the saints and the many traditions handed down through generations offer us treasures that can sustain a lifetime of discovery.
Yet familiar things can sometimes become so familiar that we stop noticing their depth.
We hear the same Gospel passages year after year, but have we ever paused to consider a small detail we previously overlooked? We pray the Rosary, but might a particular mystery speak to us differently today? We attend Mass regularly, but have we considered the meaning behind a gesture, a prayer or a moment of silence?
Sometimes a single word opens up a new understanding. Sometimes an apparently insignificant detail reveals something remarkable. Sometimes a difficult question becomes the beginning of a deeper encounter with God.
The 24/7 Catholic is a place to explore these possibilities. The aim is not to make our faith unnecessarily complicated, but to help us recognise its richness and discover how its truths connect with the realities of everyday life.
We do not need to be theologians or biblical scholars to begin. We simply need a willingness to look more closely, ask questions, reflect and remain open to what God may be showing us.
Six Ways To Explore Our Catholic Faith
The heart of the this new style of The 247 Catholic blog is organised around six main series, each offering a different way to approach our faith.
Hidden Treasures of Scripture
explores the details in the Bible that we might easily overlook.
A particular phrase, a person's actions, an event's historical background or a seemingly minor detail can sometimes illuminate a much greater truth.
The aim is to read familiar passages with fresh eyes and appreciate the depth of God's Word.
One Word, Infinite Meaning
looks more closely at important biblical and Catholic words.
Sometimes an English translation cannot convey every shade of meaning
found in the original Hebrew, Greek or Latin.
Exploring these words can deepen our understanding of Scripture and the beliefs of the Church, revealing how much meaning can be contained in a single expression.
Questions Worth Asking
provides space for honest questions about Catholicism. Some questions
concern Scripture or Church teaching; others arise from personal
experience, suffering, doubt or the challenges of living a Christian
life.
We should never assume that faith requires us to stop thinking.
Honest questions, approached with humility, can help us grow in understanding and trust.
Moments of Wonder
invites us to notice the beauty, mystery and grace that can be hidden
within ordinary experiences.
It might be something encountered during Mass, a passage of Scripture, the example of a saint, a moment of kindness or an unexpected reminder of God's presence.
Sometimes we need to slow down before we can recognise what is right in front of us.
Theology Made Simple (well... as simple as this blog can...) explores Catholic beliefs and teachings in accessible language.
Theology is not just reserved for universities, seminaries or people with shelves full of enormous books.
It can help us understand who God is, what the Church believes and why those beliefs matter.
Good theology should not remain an abstract collection of ideas; it should lead us towards a deeper relationship with God.
And finally...
Imagine If...
approaches familiar truths from a different angle. What if we
imagined ourselves standing beside Jesus during a Gospel event?
What might we notice if we looked at a familiar teaching through the eyes of someone who encountered it for the first time?
Imagination can help us reflect more deeply, provided we remember that its purpose is to illuminate the faith, not invent new doctrine.
Together, these six series offer different doors into the same great mystery: God's love revealed in Jesus Christ.
Older Posts
If we explore the archives here at this blog, we will discover that The 24/7 Catholic has been developing for some time. The older posts were written before the blog was given its current structure and style on 21st September 2026.. They reflect an earlier stage in its journey, with different approaches to subjects, introductions, formatting and presentation.
That does not mean that those reflections have been forgotten or discarded.
Quite the opposite.
There are many thoughts, reflections, discoveries and pieces of Catholic writing within the older archive that are still worth exploring. Some may approach a familiar subject differently from the way we would write about it today. Others may contain ideas that remain just as relevant now as when they were first published.
As the blog has developed, it has gradually moved towards the six-series structure and the more distinctive style used today. The newer posts are therefore part of an ongoing development rather than a complete break with what came before.
Think of the older posts as earlier chapters in the story of The 24/7 Catholic.
Some may eventually be revisited, refreshed or expanded. Others can remain as they are, providing a record of how the blog and its reflections have grown over time.
So if we discover an older article while exploring the archives, we should not be surprised if it looks or reads a little differently from a recent weekly post.
That is part of the journey.
More Than A Collection Of Reflections
Although the new style of six series forms the heart of the blog, The 24/7 Catholic is about more than weekly reflections.
We can also explore subjects connected with:
Prayer and the Rosary – discovering ways of developing our prayer life and drawing closer to Christ through prayer and devotion.
Scripture – exploring the Bible and discovering how God's Word continues to speak into our lives.
Saints and Feasts – learning from the men and women who have gone before us in faith.
Catholic Life – reflecting on Mass, confession, parish life, Catholic traditions and the practical reality of living our faith.
Faith and Daily Life – considering how Catholic faith accompanies us not only inside church, but at home, at work, in our relationships and during the ordinary circumstances of life.
An Important Connection With Parish Life
The blog also has a particular connection with Our Lady of Lourdes, Catholic Church in New Milton, Hampshire. Parish life is an important part of the story because Catholicism is not simply an individual pursuit. We belong to a community, gather around Christ, receive the Sacraments and support one another on the journey of faith.
Alongside wider Catholic reflections, there is room to explore the parish's history, traditions, church and surroundings, including the journey towards its centenary in 2027.
The online world can help us learn about our faith, but it should also encourage us to live it within our local Catholic community.
So once again, welcome to The 24/7 Catholic and thank you for taking the time to read this
So let's remember (to try at least) to stay prayerful, stay faithful and stay
Catholic — 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
