Poetry can do this in a way few other forms can – it invites us not to rush, but to linger.
The Rosary itself teaches us this holy slowness. Bead by bead, decade by decade, we are drawn again and again into the life of Christ through the eyes and heart of His Mother. It is not a prayer of haste, but of dwelling – dwelling with the mysteries of joy, sorrow, light, and glory until they begin to shape us.
What follows is a collection of short prayer-poems, one for each mystery of the Rosary. They are offered not as explanations, but as companions – words to hold quietly before a decade, or to return to afterwards. May they help us pray not only with our lips, but with our whole selves.
Through the intercession of Mary, our Blessed Mother,
may these mysteries take root in us and gently shape our lives.
Help us to find joy in the Joyful Mysteries,
strength in the Sorrowful Mysteries,
light in the Luminous Mysteries,
and hope in the Glorious Mysteries.
Grant that as we pray,
we may become living witnesses of Your love in the world.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer to Our Lady Of Lourdes
O Mother of grace, O Queen of peace,
Guide us to Christ, our souls' release.
Each bead we pray, each tear, each song,
You lead us home where we belong.
In joy and sorrow, light and night,
Your Rosary shines with Heaven's light.
Till glory dawns and all is new,
We walk with Him, and pray with you.
A Parish Invitation
If this reflection has inspired us, we are warmly invited to pray the Rosary not only in our own homes, but also with others. There is something deeply moving about lifting each decade together – just as Our Lord promised:
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them"
(Matthew 18:20, RSV-CE)
At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in New Milton, our community gathers regularly for prayer and devotion, including the Rosary. Whether we come in thanksgiving, intercession, or quiet need, we will always be welcome. For more information on our monthly parish Living Rosary Group meetings, please see our newsletters.
The Rosary Challenge 🌹
As we finish reading, here is a simple invitation for the coming week:
Choose one set of Mysteries – Joyful, Sorrowful, Luminous, or Glorious – and pray it with another person. A family member, a friend, a neighbour, or even someone we connect with online.
Let us notice how prayer changes when it is shared, and trust the promise of Christ:
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them"
(Matthew 18:20, RSV-CE)
May Our Blessed Mother lead us ever closer to her Son.
A prayer for all who read this blog post and for all who never will
Loving God,
we bring before You all who pause to read these words,
and all who never encounter them,
all whose hearts are searching,
and all who do not yet know what they seek.
Bless those who pray easily,
and those who struggle to pray at all.
Hold close those who cling to faith,
and those who feel far from You.
Like sheep who wander,
we ask You to gently gather us back,
not by force or fear,
but by love that calls us by name.
May the mysteries of Your Son's life
take root in us in ways we may never fully see.
May the quiet prayers offered here
bear fruit in places known only to You.
We place all of this
into the hands of Mary, our Mother,
that she may lead us always to Jesus,
today, tomorrow, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

The Joyful Mysteries
The Annunciation
A whisper of grace, a word so small,
Yet Heaven bends low to answer the call.
"Be it done," Mary's heart replies,
And God Himself will dwell inside.
The Visitation
Two mothers meet with songs of delight,
The child within leaps at Love's true light.
Elizabeth blesses, her joy made clear,
For God has drawn His people near.
The Nativity
In stable bare, beneath starry skies,
The Word made flesh before our eyes.
Angels sing, the shepherds kneel,
God's tender mercy is made real.
The Presentation
Within the temple, candles glow,
Simeon sees what prophets know.
The Child is light for all the earth,
A sword awaits – yet hope gives birth.
Finding in the Temple
Lost, then found, in wisdom's place,
The boy astounds with truth and grace.
"Did you not know My Father's will?"
In every search, He calls us still.
The Sorrowful Mysteries
The Agony in the Garden
Alone He prays, while night grows deep,
The world's great sins upon Him heap.
"Not My will, but Yours be done" –
The battle won before begun.
The Scourging at the Pillar
By cruel hands the lashes fall,
The sinless Lamb bears pain for all.
Each stripe declares His love anew,
He suffers this for me, for you.
The Crowning with Thorns
A twisted crown, a mockery made,
Yet glory shines where thorns are laid.
He wears the curse to set us free,
The King of love on Calvary.
The Carrying of the Cross
Beneath the weight, He stumbles low,
The world's redemption He must sow.
Each step a gift, each fall a plea,
"Take up your cross and follow Me."
The Crucifixion
Upon the hill, Love lifted high,
Forgiving words before He dies.
The veil is torn, the earth made new,
O Sacred Heart, we run to You.
The Glorious Mysteries
The Resurrection
The stone is rolled, the tomb is bare,
The risen Lord is everywhere.
"O death, where is your sting?" we sing,
For Christ is risen, conquering King.
The Ascension
He lifts His hands, a blessing gives,
Then rises where the Father lives.
Though hidden now from mortal sight,
He sends us forth with Spirit's might.
The Descent of the Holy Spirit
A rushing wind, a flame of fire,
The Church is born, her heart inspired.
With tongues of courage, bold and free,
They speak His Word eternally.
The Assumption
The Virgin pure is raised above,
To dwell forever in God's love.
Her yes resounds through Heaven's halls,
She intercedes for all who call.
The Coronation of Mary
A crown of stars, a throne prepared,
The Queen of Heaven's joy is shared.
With every saint she lifts her song,
To guide the pilgrim Church along.
The Luminous Mysteries
The Baptism of Jesus
The waters flow, the heavens part,
The Spirit rests upon His heart.
"Beloved Son," the Father cries,
The Lamb of God before our eyes.
The Wedding at Cana
The jars are filled, the feast renewed,
Water transformed, a sign of food.
At Mary's word, the hour begins,
The Bridegroom comes to cleanse our sins.
The Proclamation of the Kingdom
"Repent, believe, the Kingdom near!"
His voice resounds, the deaf now hear.
The sick are healed, the lost restored,
All hearts are called to love the Lord.
The Transfiguration
Upon the mount, His face is bright,
The law and prophets meet the Light.
"This is My Son," the Father's voice,
To hear and follow is our choice.
The Institution of the Eucharist
He breaks the bread, He lifts the cup,
His Body given, His Blood poured up.
"Do this," He says, till all is new,
"My life I give in love for you."
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
we thank You for the gift of the Rosary,
which draws us deeper into the life, death, and resurrection of Your Son.
