Prayer for a Family and Friends Grieving a Loved One’s Illness

O Lord, my God, I kneel and pray,
For hearts that ache and hope each day.
The wife, the daughter, dear and true,
And friends who do not know what to do -
Their world has dimmed, their strength feels small,
And yet they trust You through it all.

Their loved one suffers - hope feels poor,
And every breath they can’t ignore.
They walk through shadows, drained and weak,
With silent cries they dare not speak.

Be near to them, O Lord of peace,
And let their anxious sorrow cease.
They cannot bear this pain alone,
So make their breaking hearts Your own.

You wept, dear Christ, at death’s cruel sting -
You know the fears that illness brings.
You stood beside the sick, the lost -
You bore our pain and paid the cost.

So comfort now the ones who cry -
Who sit and watch, who ask You why.
Who hold the hand, or wipe the brow,
And wonder what comes after now.

Bring peace into this heavy place,
And flood their souls with gentle grace.
Let every breath and whispered prayer
Be met by You already there.

If healing comes, Lord, we give praise,
If not, be present all their days.
And should the end draw near and true,
Let Heaven’s light come breaking through.

Let Mary, Mother kind and mild,
Stay close to every grieving child.
Embrace the wife in sorrow deep,
And all who sit and watch and weep.

Surround them, Lord, with love and rest,
Let angels guard and keep them blessed.
And guide their steps through grief and night,
By faith, not sight, and Heaven’s light.

In time of sorrow, grief, and fear,
O Sacred Heart, be ever near.
Hold them close until they see
That even now, You never flee.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
